The Upper Gulf Coast Citrus Show was held on Dec 10, 2010 at Carbide

Park in Hitchcock Tx and we had a total of 146 different fruit entered

for display and judging.

The entries reflected the remarkable range of citrus that is grown in this area,

including oranges, grapefruits, lemons, tangerines and tangelos.

Last winter’s notably cold weather spells significantly reduced the number

of lime and lemon entries in the show as limes and lemons

are more sensitive to freezing temperatures than other types of citrus.

Among the winners was Nancy Ferverda, of Dickinson : with her second

place, Moro blood orange Cluster; third place Page mandarin.

Area citrus growers submitted a record-setting 194 entries at the

2009 Upper Gulf Coast Citrus Show on Dec. 10 at the Walter Hall

Park Pavilion in League City.

 

My husband laughed when I said I planned to enter my fruit again this year,

he thought for sure last year's win was due to a low number of entries.

But against all odds ... this year with a record number of pieces of fruit

being judged I won second place with my “Meyer” lemon;

third place “Cara Cara” navel orange.

My lemons placed behind the Reserve Champions that year.
